Apply for the residency. Hope you get in. Find a gallery. Get noticed by a curator. Win the grant. Get invited to the exhibition. Meet someone who knows someone. None of these things is bad. Artists need opportunities, and many good things begin with someone opening a door. The challenge comes when being chosen starts to feel like validation of your work.

Gardika Gigih is an Indonesian composer, pianist, and soundscape researcher. He will be participating in the Studio 88 “Summer Residency” programme as one of the selected Southeast Asian artists who has received full residency waiver. He will spend 2 weeks in Doi Saket, working on his unique audio works.

Jay Cheng

Jay Cheng is a Hong Kong-born artist and practitioner currently living in Chiang Mai, Thailand, whose creative journey has evolved through different forms of making, identity and care. Currently in transition from her longstanding practice as a hat-maker towards healing and mediumship, Cheng is exploring this transformation through her healing art. Her first exhibition “A Moving Ceremony: The Art of Becoming” is taking place at Studio 88 in September – October 2026.

Hatnim Lee is a Brooklyn-based photographer specialising in portraiture, creative direction, and editorial storytelling. For her first visit to Thailand, she has chosen to undertake a residency at Studio 88, where she will engage with local communities through photography, exploring the people, cultures, and traditions of Northern Thailand.

Nancy Lu Rosenheim

Nancy Lu Rosenheim is a visual artist from Chicago, Illinois, USA, whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, painting, drawing, and printmaking. A Studio 88 Artist Residency alumni, she returns in July–August 2026 for a solo residency, continuing an evolving body of research that began during her previous stay in Chiang Mai.
