Rebekah Alexander is a multidisciplinary visual artist and designer based in Richmond, Virginia, USA, whose practice bridges contemporary art, graphic design, illustration, and digital experiences. She plans to continue developing “Big Beasts” during her residency with Studio 88 in November.

Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Towson University (2019), Rebekha has developed a professional career spanning agency, in-house, and freelance environments. Working as a Senior Designer and UI/UX Lead, she specialises in visual storytelling, brand identities, and the creation of immersive and cohesive visual languages. Her professional experience is complemented by a strong commitment to community engagement and leadership, including serving as President of the AIGA student chapter at Towson University and Secretary of the Union Hill Civic Association in Richmond.

Alongside her design career, Alexander maintains an evolving artistic practice that explores the relationship between place, memory, light, and the emotional connections people form with their surroundings. Her work moves between landscapes, dream imagery, and experimental visual processes, drawing on both the natural environment and the traces of human presence. Recent explorations include a series of 50 postcard-sized landscapes reflecting on the beauty and inherent loneliness of a nomadic life, as well as imagery incorporating decaying neon relics from the oil industry’s heyday. More recently, she has been investigating distorted light, dreamscapes, and single-colour linocut printmaking.

During her November residency at Studio 88, Alexander plans to continue developing Big Beasts, an ongoing series inspired by a dream in which a windhound appeared as a guide. Returning to graphite, a medium she describes as “an old friend,” she will explore the tonal qualities of drawing to evoke the atmosphere of dreamscapes, applying a visual language developed through her observations of light bending through tree canopies. Rather than approaching the series through a predetermined narrative, she intends to remain open to the process, allowing the drawings to evolve intuitively and guide their own direction.
For Alexander, the residency will provide space to deepen her exploration of light, memory, and imagination, while allowing Big Beasts to develop organically—potentially becoming the foundation for future paintings and further visual investigations.
