As part of Studio 88 Artist Residency’s ongoing initiative to nurture local artistic talent and strengthen a sustainable creative ecosystem, visual artist and print-maker, Chidkamon Jitkasam (Fern) will present new works in the duo exhibition Idiot Killers (Monsters in Your Soul), opening in June 2026. Through a compelling series of imperfect faces and emotionally charged figures, Fern transforms human vulnerability into a visual language of empathy, inviting viewers to embrace imperfection as the essence of being human.
Chidkamon Jitkasam, known as Fern, is a Chiang Mai-born visual artist whose practice explores the complexities of human nature through painting, drawing, and mixed-media works. Growing up within Chiang Mai’s vibrant creative community, she developed an early fascination with people, their stories, and the invisible emotional landscapes that shape everyday life. This interest led her to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, where she cultivated a strong visual language grounded in observation, experimentation, and personal reflection.

Over the past decade, Fern has consistently developed a body of work centered on human emotion, identity, and interpersonal connection. Her artistic journey has been marked by numerous solo and group exhibitions across Chiang Mai, including Back to Childhood (2018), Emotion Note (2018), CAN (2022), Another World Exhibition (2023), Memo of Mellowry (2024), and TOOK TOOK (2025). Alongside her studio practice, she has worked with Saprang Craft Jewelry, further enriching her understanding of materiality, craftsmanship, and artistic expression.
Fern’s work is distinguished by her imaginative portrayals of imperfect faces and fragmented human forms. Through these figures, she invites viewers to reflect on vulnerability, difference, and the beauty that emerges from imperfection. Her practice is deeply informed by conversations, encounters, and the diverse personalities she meets, transforming everyday human experiences into visual narratives that are both intimate and universally relatable.

Artist Statement
Fern’s artistic practice investigates the notion of human imperfection. She is driven by the belief that every individual embodies both beauty and flaw, strength and vulnerability, often existing simultaneously. Rather than viewing imperfection as a deficiency, she regards it as an essential condition of being human—one that fosters empathy, understanding, and personal growth.
Central to her work is the recurring motif of the imperfect face. These imagined portraits serve as visual metaphors for identity, individuality, and lived experience. Every face carries traces of personal history, emotions, decisions, relationships, and environments that have shaped a person’s journey. Through distortion, exaggeration, and expressive mark-making, Fern reveals the complexity that lies beneath outward appearances.
Her creative process is informed by observing people, engaging in conversations, and listening to diverse life stories. These encounters reinforce her understanding that no individual is ever complete or fixed; human beings are continually transformed by time, experience, and communication. Language, in particular, plays a powerful role in this transformation, as words have the capacity to influence, heal, or alter another person’s life forever. Through her work, Fern seeks to create opportunities for reflection and dialogue. By embracing imperfection as a shared human condition, she encourages viewers to look beyond judgment, recognize the richness of difference, and cultivate deeper compassion for themselves and others
