From 7 March to 7 May 2023, Sak Homestay and Studio 88 Artist Residency will host the “Turn Your House into a Gallery Project” by Thai artist Byfah Noncharoen. The project brings artwork closer to ordinary people’s everyday lives, by bringing them into their homes.

Turn Your House into a Gallery is a project by Byfah Noncharoen, a painting, sculpture and print student at Silpakorn University, Bangkok. The first edition took place in Bangkok in 2022 and for this second edition Baifah worked in collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University and Sak Homestay in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai.
The artwork is pre-selected from student work at Chiang Mai University, after which the homeowner makes the final selection.

“Since people don’t have access to art, we will bring art to you,” explains Byfah about the concept behind the project. As she explains, art is very important to people in the society; it can communicate with many audiences across different languages, it can be thought-provoking, encourage discussion, initiate a dialogue and allow exchange of diverse opinions. But art needs space.

This project aims to create a new paradigm by introducing something unexpected and placing it inside the home. It may create new attitudes, inspiring people to put more on their walls than just their wedding photos. The project aspires to reduce the distance between people in society and contemporary art.
The works will be exhibited throughout Sak Homestay and Studio 88 Artist Residency; come and check it out!
