Studio 88 Artist Residency invites artists, designers, performers, musicians, filmmakers, writers, technologists, and interdisciplinary creatives to join SensoryScapes 2026, a four-week to six-week residency exploring how local stories, traditions, and environments can inspire new forms of artistic expression with global relevance.

Taking place during the magical Loy Krathong and Yi Peng (Lantern) Festival and held alongside Chiang Mai Design Week 2026, this residency offers artists the opportunity to develop ambitious ideas within one of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant creative festivals.

Whether you’re creating immersive installations, experimental performances, sound works, interactive experiences, or cross-disciplinary projects, SensoryScapes provides the time, space, and community to push your practice further.

We Are Looking For Artists Who…

  • Experiment across disciplines
  • Challenge traditional artistic boundaries
  • Explore sound, performance, installation, design, technology, ecology, or place
  • Are interested in collaboration and creative exchange
  • Want to develop work through research, testing, and experimentation

We welcome practitioners from all creative disciplines, including hybrid and emerging practices.

What You’ll Experience

During the residency, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Develop a new project or expand an existing one
• Collaborate with fellow resident artists
• Connect with Chiang Mai’s creative community
• Engage with local culture and place
• Present work during the Chiang Mai Design Week 2026
• Receive support from Studio 88 throughout your residency

What does the Residency include?

  • Time and space to develop new and/or existing work

What What does the Showcase include?

  • Rehearsal studio/space and basic equipment and technical support from our technical team
  • Showcase venues (to be considered based on project nature and space availability)
  • Promotion of the public event

Application process

To apply, please complete the online application form and provide the following supporting documents:

  • CV
  • 100-word biographical note
  • 250-word statement outlining why you would like to participate in the programme and the work you propose to develop
  • Indication of preferred residency period, 4-6 weeks

Residency Fee

There is no application fee. The residency fee will be applied only upon acceptance, based on the residency fee and services listed on our website.

Selection Process

Studio 88 will select the participating artists. Selected artists will be notified via email by late August 2026.
