Studio 88 Artist Residency is now calling for artists in any discipline to apply for our on-going residency programme.
It’s been a difficult few years for artists and the artistic community, and travelling to attend artist residencies has been particularly challenging. In March 2021, Res Artis (Worldwide Network of Arts Residencies) published a report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on artists and arts organisations around the world, which shows the impact on residency programmes. But it’s a sector that is starting to recover. On the Move’s Cultural Mobility Yearbook 2022 shows that in spite of cancelled or adapted activities, in-person mobility still made up the majority of activity (70.6%).
Here at Studio 88 Artist Residency we believe in the importance of in-person connections in order to create spaces to play, share, learn, make mistakes and experiment. And so it is with great joy that we are calling for applications from artists of any discipline for our on-going residency programme.
Our residency space is located in the northern Thai town of Doi Saket. Set in a rural landscape just 30 minutes from the cultural city of Chiangmai, Studio 88 gives time and space to focus on creating.
The aim of the residency is to provide time out from the busy day-to-day life in order to spend time in a tranquil space to create and think. There is no pressure to produce anything by the end of the residency, although the team can help to facilitate connections with galleries or other initiatives if the resident is interested.
Sasiwimon Wongjarin (Aom), an international arts manager and a native of Doi Saket, will be on hand to introduce artists to the local creative sector. Additionally, where possible she can provide any additional information about local artist initiatives relevant to each artist’s interests. The residency is an open format where each resident has the freedom to shape their own direction and focus.
We are accepting applications on an on-going basis and residencies can be from one week up to three months.
Check out the application details and send your application form to studio88artistresidency[at]gmail[dot]com.
