We are calling for applications for the inaugural “Studio 88 x NY20+ Residency for Thai Artists” taking place on 1 to 30 April 2024 in Chengdu, China. The residency is open for two Thai artists from any discipline, who are currently residing in Thailand and have a working command of English (Chinese is not compulsory).
Situated in Chengdu, Sichuan, NY20+ is an art promotion organization committed to international cultural exchanges, and strengthening cooperation among art institutions and art practitioners, art teachers and students. Its sprawling 141,000-square-meter campus is divided into three themed zones, providing ample space for exhibitions, workshops and cultural events.
The “Studio 88 x NY20+ Residency for Thai Artists” program is inspired by the traditional Bashu culture of Sichuan, and invites applicants interested in exploring local cultural heritage and ecology, and the interplay between tradition and modernity. The applicants will be introduced to the elements of the Bashu traditions, as well as local handicraft, history and patterns, and free to experiment with incorporating them into their own art.

What does the residency include?
- Private or shared studios/workspaces equipped with art materials as per applicant’s project needs
- Private or shared accommodation
- Standard breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided at a regular time in residence
- Administrative support on-site
- Websites in Chinese and English for all participants, created by NY20+
- Opportunities for workshops, participation in cultural events, annual group exhibition, lectures, seminars and other events

Selection process
The upcoming residency can accommodate two Thai artists. Studio 88 and NY20+ will make the selection and the successful applicants will be notified via email by 29 February 2024.
Important
All special requirements must be discussed with the organizers in advance. The organizers are not able to cover participants’ travel expenses and visa fees.
