Tidtaya Sinutoke is a Thai musical theatre composer, writer, and musician. She will be participating in the Studio 88 “Summer Residency” programme as one of the selected Southeast Asian artists who have received a full residency waiver. She will spend 2 weeks in Doi Saket, working on her new multidisciplinary performance.
As a theatre writer and composer, she works between Thailand and the United States. Her work is rooted in memory — childhood, family, desire, and trauma. She is especially drawn to stories that emerge from intimate, lived experience and that use language to reveal emotional truth.
Her interdisciplinary practice spans musicals, plays, opera libretti, and songs, while her artistic interests center on how rhythm, repetition, and musical structure shape narrative.
Tidtaya Sinutoke holds a Bachelor’s degree in “Professional Music” from Berklee College of Music and a Master’s degree in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University Tisch School.
Artist Statement
My training as a storyteller has developed across multiple forms. I write musicals, plays, opera libretti, and songs, often creating work in which text and music are inseparable. Through this interdisciplinary practice, I have become deeply interested in how rhythm, repetition, and musical structure can shape narrative. Whether I am writing dialogue, lyrics, or libretti, I am attentive to the emotional and musical life of language: how a phrase can hold memory, how silence can reveal what cannot be spoken, and how recurring images and motifs can accumulate meaning over time.
