It is our pleasure to welcome Viengphet Thongmalith (Noynit) as an Artist-in-Residence at Studio 88. Noynit is a Laos visual artist whose painting practice is deeply influenced by everyday life, social surroundings, and the emotional landscape of contemporary Laos society. Her work emerges from close observation of people, environments, and shared experiences, translating them into vivid and expressive visual narratives. Noynit is a member of Lost Jigsaw, Artist Collectives from Laos.

Working primarily with painting, Noynit explores the interconnected relationships between life, nature, and human interaction. Her compositions often depict familiar scenes such as markets, domestic spaces, and moments of quiet reflection, rendered in a distinctive pop-art–influenced style with vibrant, unconventional colors. Through this visual language, she reflects collective emotions, memory, and the rhythms of daily life.

During her residency at Studio 88, Noynit will continue developing paintings that explore time, change, and human presence within evolving social and cultural contexts. Through experimentation with color, form, and mixed media, she seeks to push beyond traditional representation, using painting as a way to reflect on and respond to the rapidly changing world around her.

Through her practice, Noynit invites viewers to reconnect with familiar scenes and shared emotions, encouraging reflection on coexistence, hope, and lived experience. Her work offers a space where personal memory and collective feeling meet, transforming everyday moments into expressive visual storytelling.
Studio 88 accepts applications on an ongoing basis. Check out our residency program and apply now.
