We’re excited to welcome Pornpilin Tancharoen, Art Therapist and Abstract Painter, to Studio 88. Pornpilin, aka Zign, is dedicated her art practice to disability advocacy. She has collaborated with blind and non-blind artists to explore sensory-based art, including developing scent-labeled paint to enhance artistic expression. Through her workshops, she fosters self-healing and empowerment by integrating multi-sensory experiences into the creative process.

Zign, earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Art from the Faculty of Architecture at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. She then furthered her education in anthroposophic art therapy, where she focused on color, philosophy, and medicine at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. She is currently an Art Therapist and Abstract Painter, and she also serves as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Dentistry at Thammasat University and other institutions. Her teaching emphasizes the use of art through a humanistic philosophy to enhance the understanding of life.

Zign has taken the initiative to employ a unique approach to create artworks, blending shared experiences of color usage and the impact of color on viewers to create abstract artworks. Her pieces serve as a testament to contemporary painting concepts, exploring how colors are perceived and their emotional effects through dynamic color cycles. Pornpilin’s artworks stand out for their distinctive balance of colors, reflecting the essence of each hue and demonstrating how geography, time, and emotional states can influence color transformation in the present moment.
The techniques she uses reflect the transformation of breath and time, symbolizing beauty in every change that occurs within the painting.
She has developed a visual language that expresses emotions and reflects the tangible presence of the spirit in nature. At the same time, her work conveys the concept of empathy between humans and nature through art and colors that resonate with human emotions.

During her time at studio 88, Zign is working on the “Beyond Sight”, a research-driven residency project. It focuses on exploring sensory-based art experiences for blind and non-blind artists using scent-labeled paint. The project includes a workshop series emphasizing touch, smell, taste, balance, movement, warmth, and self-awareness to enhance artistic accessibility and inclusivity. By fostering collaboration, it aims to create new artistic dialogues and raise awareness of disability-informed spaces.
The project will produce multisensory artworks, research insights, and community engagement, culminating in a public exhibition and discussion. Through this residency, “Beyond Sight” contributes to the broader discourse on disability and inclusive art, encouraging new approaches to creative expression beyond vision.
Studio 88 is accepting applications on an on-going basis. Check out our residency program and apply now.
