Studio 88 is excited to welcome Jason Guzman, filmmaker and educator to join our residency in December 2024. Discover more about his work here!

Jason Guzman is a distinguished filmmaker, educator, and storyteller whose career spans over a decade of creative excellence. Based in New York City, Jason is the Founding Director of Flywheel Film, a boutique media agency. He also serves as a Senior Media Producer at Columbia University and a professor of media production at Montclair State University. His work combines technical expertise with a passion for meaningful storytelling, emphasizing cultural narratives, identity, and the human experience.

Jason’s extensive portfolio includes acclaimed short documentaries that have screened at international film festivals, innovative public campaigns, and immersive media projects. His ability to craft impactful visual narratives is grounded in a solid foundation in traditional film techniques, which he complements with experimental, participatory approaches. Highlights of his career include producing engaging educational content for diverse audiences and collaborating on media initiatives that drive social conversations.

At Studio 88, Jason will focus on an ethnographic documentary project that captures intimate human stories through a series of collaborative portraits. Drawing on his participatory filmmaking style, Jason plans to engage with local communities in Northern Thailand, using their voices and experiences to guide the narrative. The project aims to explore universal themes of identity and connection while celebrating the richness of the local culture and environment.

With a creative philosophy rooted in trust and openness, Jason’s residency promises to deliver a deeply personal and visually compelling exploration of human stories.
