In September 2023, Danish-born and now California-based, Søren Thielemann came to Studio 88 Artist Residency to find inspiration and to work on a new style for his art. Here is his impression.
Søren shared his motivation for pursuing a residency in Thailand, stating, “Studio 88 is different than other places that I have heard about and seen in the aspect that it has beautiful surroundings. The studio itself that we worked in is humongous, and the light and the space give you an opportunity to really spread your wings and do things that you normally wouldn’t be able to do in a smaller studio.”
Søren shared the most interesting and challenging parts of his artistic approach: “Being here gives me joy. Besides working on the art itself, it has given me confidence as an artist that I have what it takes. I think that is equally important. To do beautiful work, you have to believe in yourself and know that you can get it done when you have to.”
Søren took this opportunity to thank Aom, the Director of Studio 88, for this amazing residency. “Not only is she super professional, but she also has an amazing network. She is very good at advising you as an artist, not necessarily just creatively but through what I could call artistic coaching, helping guide you in the direction you want to go, which has been very helpful.”
Last but not least, Søren said, “I think a residency in itself, having a place to work, is great. But when you add those additional elements that she brings to the residency, it becomes just magnificent. It was definitely a lifetime experience for me. So, thank you!”
