In February and March 2024, Korean audiovisual artist Eunmi Kim (Mimi) was an artist-in-residence at Studio 88, exploring the theme “reviving nature”. Here is what she told us about her experience:
I have a particular fondness of Thailand. The villages of Luang Nuea and Doi Saket [where the residency took place] are a haven of peace and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still offer enough in terms of places to visit, cafes, restaurants and wellness centres you can reach by bicycle. From early morning rides to a jok (Thai rice porridge) stall, visiting Tao Garden Swim & Sauna when you are tired and need a massage, to evening rides to a local temple surrounded by the sounds of frogs and crickets, this serene environment and friendly local people made me feel very thankful for every experience.

The residency was very well organised by Aom, the (very passionate!) director of Studio 88, and offered many site visits, and lots of engagement with local art communities including Research Unit of Applied Electric Field in Engineering (RUEE Lab) and Chiang Mai Breathe Council, as well as public talks and many more. I was very fortunate to meet talented international artists and exchange experiences with them.

We gathered together to raise awareness of pollution and environmental issues through artistic activities (expression, reflection, and emphasis) and promote creative activities that lead to a more sustainable future.
