Sara Wolman is an American graphic artist and naturalist who is joining us at Reviving Nature: Pollution Alert Artist Residency in February 2024. Learn more about what brought her to Doi Saket and what drives her as an artist deeply intertwined with the need for conservation.
Sara has been living and working in remote Alaska for the past ten years. Through her art, she aims to ignite a deep sense of empathy and responsibility within viewers, prompting them to engage actively in conservation based efforts and thinking. She believes that art has the power to connect people on a profound level, making it an ideal medium to raise awareness about environmental issues.

Through her art, she strives to capture the essence of threatened habitats, wildlife, and the delicate balance of nature. She employs a variety of mediums, ranging from painting to photography to digital design and interpretive installation. Her artistic process often involves collaborating with scientists, environmentalists, and local communities to deepen her understanding of ecological challenges and inform the conceptual foundations of her artwork. By integrating scientific data, stories, and narratives into her art, she aims to bridge the gap between the factual and the emotional, unveiling the interconnectedness of human existence and the natural world.

During the residency, Sara’s project will merge oil paint and digital illustration to explore the significance of migratory birds and conservation challenges, particularly focusing on species in the state of Puebla (Mexico).
Drawing inspiration from Chaing Mai’s diverse landscapes which provide vital habitats for migratory bird species, Sara seeks to advocate for conservation by creating visually unique artworks that emphasize the birds’ importance in maintaining ecological balance and highlight the threats they face. She will create large-scale works that showcase the birds’ intricate details and expressive features. These traditional artworks will then be digitally enhanced, incorporating augmented reality and animation to create an immersive and interactive experience for viewers.
