Testimonial: Sara Wolman

In February and March 2024, American graphic artist and naturalist based in Alaska, participated in Studio 88’s Reviving Nature. She shares some highlights of her stay at Studio 88.

My residency for “Reviving Nature” at Studio 88 was a transformative experience that deepened my creative practice and fostered meaningful connections with the local community. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Doi Saket’s landscapes, I was inspired to explore the intricate relationship between nature and humanity.

The residency provided a unique platform for me to engage with both local artists and artists from all over the world, sharing stories and perspectives that enriched my understanding of the environmental challenges they face, particularly concerning air pollution. Through workshops and projects, I was able to incorporate their diverse voices and experiences into my work, amplifying a crucial conversation about sustainability, the wildlife effected, and our shared responsibility for the environment.

Being immersed in this vibrant community allowed me to dive deeply into my creative process. I experimented with techniques inspired by both the natural surroundings, and the pressing need to address environmental issues. The supportive atmosphere at Studio 88 encouraged me to push boundaries and explore innovative solutions to convey the urgency of the air pollution crisis.

Overall, “Reviving Nature” was not just an artistic endeavor; it was a profound journey of connection and awareness. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the dialogue on environmental stewardship and to return home to Alaska with new insights, relationships, and a renewed passion for my art. I am hoping to continue my connection and journey with Studio 88 in the future, and deepen these incredible connections that were created.
