Studio 88 Artist Residency is pleased to host Brazilian artist and photographer Mariangela Ratto at our special program Reviving Nature: Pollution Alert Artist Residency in February 2024. Learn more about her work and ideas for the residency here!
Mariangela is an accomplished photographer and makes bespoke artists books which are handwritten with photographs.
It is important to Mariangela to express herself artistically causing little environmental impact. She works with paper, a material that decomposes easily. She recognizes that, currently, the world does not support the accumulation of material anymore.
For this residency, she is particularly interested in river contamination and the effects of pollution on local communities, and she will work on composing a handwritten book with photographs, using all kinds of everyday materials she likes to incorporate into her work.
